New Hobie Store in CDM
New Hobie Surf Shop in Corona Del Mar is now open...
In 1950 Hobie Alter started off shaping balsawood surfboards and ended up shaping the surf culture. Now, Hobie is adding to its rock solid foundation with a new store in Corona Del Mar. The iconic freestanding building, located at 3140 E. Coast Hwy is Hobie's fifth shop in Southern California. The new CDM store features Hobie’s popular industry-first "Green Room," which is anchored by Patagonia and promotes organic and sustainable products catering to the environmentally conscious buyer. “For years, we’ve wanted to replant the Hobie flag in CDM, so when this opportunity and location opened up, we dove in,” said Hobie President Mark Christy.
One of the unique components to Hobie Corona Del Mar is the collaboration with clothing brand Hurley. The partnership, which will feature an elevated presence of Hurley product in the store, was a natural fit due to the two companies' heritage. Hobie Alter started as a shaper, opened one of the world's first surf shops and is generally credited as the first person to manufacture and sell foam and fiberglass surfboards. Bob Hurley also got his start in the shaping bay, becoming one of the world's most respected shapers in the '80s before transitioning into the surf clothing industry. "We are both excited and humbled to partner up with this great core retailer," says Hurley founder and co-chairman Bob Hurley. "Hobie is the real deal and is the leading pioneer and innovator in the world of surfing and surf retailing."
While the roots run deep for the two companies, both pride themselves in innovation and forward-thinking. Christy noted, “This strategic alliance of creative minds will provide authentic, premium product in an incredible environment for anyone with a connection to the ocean, and of course, it will be backed up by the unparalleled Hobie commitment to the customer experience.”
